Chris
(Crazy) Kurzy's Run For Cystic Fibrosis
Please read below about
Cyclone Trainer, Chris Kurz, and his efforts to raise money for a
great cause. It is rumoured that team management has also directed
president, Don Annett, to join in on the effort. He will be taking the
easy way though, biking the 76 km tour. Please pledge your money to
Kurzy's cause.
Hey everyone!
As you may or may not know, I am organizing a fundraiser for Cystic
Fibrosis on Saturday, September 13th. I am going to be running from
Point Clark, heading East on Highway 86 to Listowel in an effort to
raise money to help find a cure for this brutal disease.
In order to complete this ultra-marathon of 76 KM, I have spent the
last two and a half years training...training...and training some
more. I am writing to you today, in hopes that you would consider
sponsoring me. Any monetary donation is greatly appreciated, and all
donations of $20 or greater will be issued a receipt for income tax
purposes.
Donations can be made in person @ Dynafit Exercise Center and @ Corley
Sports Excellence (both located in downtown Listowel) or can be made
to any Listowel Kinsmen member. Cash or cheques made payable to "The
Listowel Kinsmen Club" are suggested. (If you are one of my buddies
reading this email in either Vancouver, Calgary, Sault Ste. Marie,
P.E.I. or Boston, Mass, get in touch with me and I'll get you an
address you can send a cheque to)
I will dip my toes in Lake Huron at/or around 8 AM, rain or shine. A
finish line will be set up along the North Perth community trail,
right next to the Kin Station. Arrangements are being made for a dance
to be held @ Kin Station in Listowel that evening. (Buck and Doe
atmosphere, with 50/50 draws and raffle prizes and so on - oh, and
alcoholic beverages will also be served with all profits going to
C.F.)
Everyone is encouraged to come out and cheer me on, and with the wide
array of injuries I am currently dealing with, I am going to need all
the help I can get. A few people have agreed to seek out sponsorship
and walk, run or cycle alongside me, with their distance
contributions starting at as little as 1 KM. If you are interested in
joining me for some physical activity, please come out and do what you
can. I have pledge forms available for you, and water and Gatorade
will be provided.
Any questions, please get in touch with me and let's team up to do our
best to help the innocent kids battling this deadly disease.
Let's get off our butts for a good cause on a nice little Saturday.
Thanking you in advance,
Chris Kurz

League Banquet-2007-08
Last night the Midwestern Jr. Hockey
League and the Waterloo Siskins hosted a great banquet to celebrate
this exciting season and our many players. It was held at RIM Park and
a good time was had by all. With playoffs starting tonight, it was
great to see such a great turnout. Guest Speaker E.J. McGuire was very
well spoken and had some excellent information for the players.
Cyclone Rookie sensation, Kurtis
Bartliff, took home the league Rookie of The Year Trophy. Although
there were many good candidates, we all know that Kurtis was the most
deserving. His team-mate, Chad Thompson joined Kurtis on the 2nd All
Star Team. Many people including myself would have thought that Josh
Leis would have joined them on this all star squad but others must
have thought differently. Below are a few pictures of our honoured
Cyclones, Kurtis & Chad. Congrats to you 2 guys and we wish you and
the rest of our hard working Cyclones, all the best in the playoffs.

SUPER CYCLONE WEEKEND-OCT.
26-28TH
This will be a 1st of what will hopefully be many
annual weekends in which Listowel Minor Hockey and the Listowel
Jr. Cyclones combine to promote all levels of Cyclone hockey in
Listowel. The Jr. Cyclones will of course be playing on Friday
night and the big game will be on Sunday afternoon. There will
be many Minor Hockey games throughout the weekend and a huge
raffle table that tickets will be sold for all weekend long. On
Sunday after the game with the Cullitons, there will be a skate
with the Jr. Cyclones for any Minor Hockey players that would
like to go out. This will be followed by probably 4 Minor Hockey
games.
M & M's will be setting up their tents in front
of the arena for a "Tail Gate" style BBQ for all those coming
out for any of the games on Sunday afternoon. Once we know the
Minor Hockey schedule for the weekend, it will be posted here.
It's a great chance for the 2 organizations to work together and
celebrate the Cyclones at whichever level it may be.
For the die hard hockey fans out there, you can
even come to the rink early and take in some FREE hockey action
provided by the Sunday Morning Recreation League Relics.
Fri. Oct. 12th-Meet the
Player, Parents, & Executive
On Friday Oct. 12th, after the 3-2 win against
Cambridge, we introduced the team, parents, coaches,
executive, and volunteers to all those who came up to the "after the storm"
festivities. It was a good chance for everyone to meet all
those who are involved with the Cyclones Organization. This
event was sponsored by Willies Food Outlet of Listowel and they
prepared a feast for all those who attended. For those who
missed this event, a great time was had by all as we were able
to meet the entire Cyclone Family. Thanks to Willies Food
and everyone who joined us.
The 1st Annual Meet the
Cyclones/Road Hockey Challenge
On Saturday Sept. 9th, the Listowel Cyclones held their 1st ever
ball hockey challenge at the Food Basics/M & M parking lot.
Chief organizer of the event was executive member, Doug Kellum.
He was assisted by Chris Kurz, Paul Stewart and many more. It
was a great day of fun for the kids who challenged the Cycs and
by everyone who attended. The entire team and coaching staff was
on hand for this event and as you can see, blue sky was the
order of the day. Mayor Ed Hollinger was on hand to welcome
everyone to the event.

CYCLONE BANQUET HELD ON SAT. APRIL 21ST AT THE LISTOWEL KINSTATION.
A great time was had by all on Saturday night as the Cyclones paid tribute to their award winners. They are as follows:
Scoring Leader- Dennis Dewar (2nd straight year)
MVP- Dennis Dewar ( 2nd straight year- co-winner with Tiny Cochrane last year)
Best Defenseman- Chad Thompson
Most Improved Player- Dan O'Hearn
Most Sporstmanlike Player-Trevor McNutt
Rookie of The Year-Chris Moulson
Best Defensive Forward - Alex Sharpe
Best Goals Against Average- Josh Leis (2nd straight year)
True Grit Award- Tyler Devos
Presentations were also made to retiring players who had played either all or most of their Jr. B. Careers here in Listowel. They were presented to Dennis Dewar, Matt May, Alan Lamont, & Jarrett Schnurr. Thanks to these 4 individuals as well as retiring players, Pat Keller, & Anthony Ferrante.
The Volunteer Award- Co Winners were Jim Stewart (assistant GM) and goaltending coach, Steve Leith.
Tim Horton's Scholarships went to: Chad Thompson, Tyler Devos, & Alex Sharpe
Conway Furniture Scholarships went to: Zach Graham & Shayne McClure
During the course of the banquet, thanks were given to all the Cyclone financial sponsors, our billet families, our many great volunteers, and in general, to everyone who is part of this great Cyclone family. If you missed it, here's a big thank you to you, our fans and Cyclone family members. We would not be here without everyone's support. THANK YOU
Alex Sharpe was named as next years Cyclone Captain. Big skates to fill after the retirement of Dennis Dewar, but Alex will give it his all to keep this Cyclone chirning.
DENNIS DEWAR WINS LEROY JAIMESON AWARD AT LEAGUE BANQUET
For the 2nd consecutive year, a Cyclone has won this award which goes to a player that has played his entire Jr. B career with 1 team and shown leadership qualities. Last season, Brent Cochrane took home the award and this season, Captain Dennis Dewar. With all the pressure these days on players to go here and go there for various reasons, we are very proud to have players like Brent, Dennis, Dan, Mike, Matt, Al, Tyler,Jarrett (and the list goes on) who choose to play in Listowel. We appreciate everything they do for the Cyclones and their dedication to the team. Dennis has been a true leader of this team & here are a few of his accomplishments as a player:
5 seasons with the Cyclones(about 1/4 of 1 with the OHL Belleville Bulls)
113 goals which is 2nd all time in Cyclone scoring
106 assists which is 5th all time for Cyclones
219 points which is 3rd all time behind Pete Zister(228) & Sean Burton(227)
218 games played which is 2nd behind Perry Ohm at 221.
Lead the team in scoring 2 years & would have been 3 if not for his stint in the OHL. If given the chance the following year, he would have done just fine in the OHL also. Unfortunatley(fortunate for Listowel) the OHL coaches were with the must be big & tall philosophy. Their loss, our gain! Congrats from everyone in the Cyclone Organization to Dennis Dewar. Just so you know though, he is just getting started this year. Bring on the playoffs!!
